Ladies English Sterling Silver 7 jewel Fusee pocket watch (key wind). Made 1881
This Ladies pocket watch made in 1881 is fantastic condition.
The solid sterling silver case is absolutely beautiful and with lots of geometric and floral deep engravings, looks very stunning. Even the crown and bow have been engraved. The case is in near mint condition on the outside, but has some scratches on the inner case near the winding hole (very common). Even the engraving shield is untouched so a loved ones initials can be engraved and the watch personalized.
The movement is in near mint condition with fantastic gilding and complete with dust cover strip around the outer edge to keep delicate parts clean. The movement is 7 jewels and has a Fusee chain drive inside. That means there is a tiny bicycle chain running from the mainspring barrel to the first gear (called the fusee cone) which improves accuracy. English watches have been made with fusee cones and chain for over 200 years, in the 1830-1900's only high quality watches kept the fusee cone system.
