The enamel verge Pocket Watch from circa 1780 is a remarkable testament to the exquisite craftsmanship and artistry of the late 18th century, likely originating from Switzerland. This captivating timepiece features a gilt case that is beautifully adorned with intricate enamel decoration, particularly on the back, where a classically dressed warrior holding a shield is depicted. The enamel plaque remains in good condition, with only minor scratches and hairlines, primarily visible against the sky backdrop. The watch's movement is a gilt verge, characterized by a finely engraved and pierced balance bridge supported by four round pillars, all in good original condition and functioning well. The white enamel dial, complemented by ornate gilt hands, retains its elegance despite a small chip near the 6 o'clock position. The gilt case, with its bright gilding and some internal tarnishing, is in excellent condition, with well-functioning hinges and a secure bezel closure. Although the crystal set bezel is missing one crystal at the front, the back remains intact, while the high dome crystal crowning the watch is in pristine condition. This timepiece not only serves as a functional accessory but also as a stunning example of the era's craftsmanship, encapsulating the elegance and sophistication of the period.
