This incredible pocket watch is a triple cased Verge Fuzee model produced by the renowned London watchmaker Harry Potter in 1791. Potter was a master watchmaker who worked in London between 1775 and 1803 and was known for his complex movements and beautifully finished cases. This particular watch features an impressive repousse case adorned with images of knights and camel riders, likely finished by Maweis, another well-known jeweler of the time.

Although the outer chagreen case has been cosmetically restored, the two gold inner cases are in excellent condition, as is the enamel dial. Most impressively, this pocket watch still boasts its original hands and both of its original crystals, including a bulls-eye crystal on the dial side. Remarkably, the watch still runs and keeps time for its period.

Similar examples of Potter's watches can be found in the British Museum and one was bequeathed to the Metropolitan Museum by an avid watch collector, Laura Frances Hearn, in 1917. This pocket watch is a true masterpiece of its time and a remarkable piece of horological history.
