The SWISS ALLY SLOPER PRIZE WATCH - Circa 1900 is a remarkable timepiece that captures the essence of⁢ late 19th-century craftsmanship and cultural history.

This is a Swiss cylinder open face character prize watch from the late 19th Century. It has a keyless gilt bar movement with a going barrel. The watch features a plain cock with a polished steel regulator and a plain three arm gilt balance with a blue steel spiral hairspring. The cylinder is made of polished steel, and there is a steel escape wheel. The dial is white enamel with Roman numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial, and blue steel hands. The plain nickel open face case is engraved with the cartoon character Ally Sloper above the initials "A. Sloper. F.O.M." (Friend of Man). The cuvette is engraved with "Ally Sloper's Half Holiday." These watches were given as prizes by the British comics magazine, Ally Sloper's Half Holiday, which was published weekly from 1884 to 1916 by "The Sloperies" in London.
