This is a beautiful 18th century Swiss verge watch with paste set gold and enamel pair cases. Its full plate fire gilt movement features pentagonal baluster pillars, a pierced and engraved masked cock with a garnet endstone, and a silver regulator disc. The fusee and chain have a worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates, and there is a plain three arm gold balance with a blue steel spiral hairspring. The white enamel dial has both Roman and Arabic numerals and elegant decorative stone set hands. The inner case is plain gold with a corresponding number to that on the movement, and the outer case has a row of pastes on the front bezel and a paste set button. The watch is also adorned with a stunning oval three color gold cartouche of foliate decoration surrounded by a dark blue enamel border. The watch is signed by Jean Robert Soret and is estimated to have been made around 1770. Its diameter measures 40 mm, and its depth is 13mm.
