DECORATIVE GOLD FRENCH REPEATING POCKET WATCH – 1780

This is a beautiful late 18th-century French quarter repeating verge watch in a gold consular case adorned with small diamonds. It features a full plate gilt fusee movement and a finely pierced and engraved bridge cock with a steel coqueret. The watch also has a plain three arm gilt balance with a blue steel spiral hairspring, a silver regulator dial with a blue steel indicator, and a push pendant a toc quarter repeating on blocks on the case. The finely crafted white enamel dial has Roman and Arabic numerals with pierced stone set hands. Notably, the watch has winding through the dial and is inscribed with the signature of Cleret a Orleans. The gold consular case has applied two-colour gold decoration over a matted ground, which gives it a distinctly unique appearance. The band of small diamonds that adorns the bezel and forms a monogram on the back only underline the luxuriousness of the watch.
