This rare antique pocket key watch is an exceptional example of French craftwork from the mid-1800s. It features delicate enamel painting on the dial and bespoke Roman numerals, indicating that it was owned by someone of means. Pocket watches were a status symbol at the time, and this one would have been hand-finished, demonstrating more wealth.

A unique feature of this timepiece is the polychrome decoration of a city on the water, making it even more valuable. The dial also features detailed decorations of a cartouche and flora motifs that perfectly offset the silver casement. The keys are attached to a metal chain, and the cover metal bears the monogrammed initials "FB". The interior of the watch shows a French inscription that reads: “Echappement a Cylindre Aiguilles Quatre Rubiz.”

The keys are critical for winding and lock set maintenance of the watch, which is in working order and of high quality, considering that it is an antique pocket watch. There are minor age-related marks on the silver casement that will be cleaned and polished before shipping, but there is no damage to the enamel or hands.

This unique piece is a testament to the craftsmanship of the mid-1800s. It is a rare find and would make an excellent addition to any collection or a special gift for someone who appreciates classic style. It is no surprise that this watch has been recognized and exhibited in prestigious museums such as the National Museum of American History - Smithsonian and The Met.
