For sale is a remarkable silver gilt and gilt brass verge watch by W. Bluck. The watch features a high-quality gilt fusee movement with a verge escapement, intricately pierced and engraved balance cock, clean blued screws, four round baluster pillars, and a large silver regulator disk. The movement, numbered 2022, is running well and in excellent condition. Adding to its appeal, the movement is safeguarded by a beautifully engraved removable gilt dustcap.

The timepiece is complemented by a fine white enamel dial that remains in very good condition, with only minimal surface scratches. It showcases matching gold 'arrowhead' hands that further enhance its elegance.

The inner case, made of silver gilt with London hallmarks for 1796 and maker's mark I?I, is in fairly good shape, bearing a few light bruises and scratches that reveal the silver underneath. The hinge, while functional, shows signs of an old repair. Despite this, the bezel snaps shut, though there is a slight gap on one side, possibly due to the previous repair. The crystal exhibits a few light scratches, but the bow and stem remain undamaged and functional.

The watch is housed in an attractive gilt outer case, featuring a maker's mark on the inside center of the back. Overall, the outer case is in good condition, with some mild wear to the gilding at the center of the back. The hinge and catch work faultlessly, ensuring the case closes securely. However, the catch button does have a dent.

W. Bluck worked in partnership with James Young until 1779, after which he operated under his own name until approximately 1800. This particular timepiece showcases the craftsmanship and artistry that Bluck was renowned for during his career.
