£1,275.00
This exquisite English verge watch dates back to the 18th century. It features a beautiful silver pair case with a fully restored white enamel dial. The dial is particularly unique as it bears the original owner's name, "Thomas Machan," in place of the usual hour numerals. The hour markers are replaced with Arabic numerals for the five-minute intervals. The dial is complemented by blue steel beetle and poker hands.
The watch is powered by a full plate fire gilt movement with round pillars. The movement boasts a pierced and engraved cock, as well as a silver regulator disc. It operates on a fusee and chain mechanism with a worm and wheel barrel setup located between the plates. The timekeeping is ensured by a plain three-arm steel balance and a blue steel spiral hairspring.
The watch is housed in a plain silver pair case with a silver pendant and bow. The inner case bears the maker's mark "TO." Additionally, a purpose-made silver outer case, hallmarked in 1838, provides added protection to this exceptional timepiece.
